Re: Board of Deacons Pastor Transition Recommendation
As you are aware our current Senior Pastor Joe Yelton has announced his retirement effective February 1, 2022. The Hominy Baptist Church Board of Deacons appointed a transition planning committee to study possible Interim-Pastor options while the Church considers a permanent plan for pastoral leadership for our Church. That committee has made a recommendation to the Board of Deacons that has been thoroughly discussed and unanimously approved. This letter is to make you aware of that recommendation and to give details of when it will be voted on in Church Conference. Any plan approved requires a two-thirds approval vote by church members present at Church Conference.
The Board of Deacons recommends to Hominy Baptist Church membership that following the retirement of Senior Pastor Joe Yelton on February 1, 2022, that a Co-Interim Pastors Plan be implemented. Specifics of the plan include the following:
· Period of Co-Interims will begin February 1, 2022, continuing through 12 months to allow time for church to review and evaluate the effectiveness of this plan. During the last three months of the plan the Church will decide on a future course of ministerial leadership.
· Co-Interim Pastors will be Pastor Paul Raybon and Pastor Melissa Hughes and each will have a twelve-month salary/benefits package of $65,000.
· The Hominy Baptist Church Personnel Committee is requested to develop a Covenant with each Co-Interim Pastor clearly defining job responsibilities and a leadership decision making process. The Covenant may also include specific goals to be achieved during the twelve months and strategies to achieve these goals.
· To facilitate the best use of Co-Interim Pastors time and responsibilities there is a need to remove some of their current roles. These include daily routines dealing with church office, custodial needs, financial operations, and oversight of Buildings and Grounds. To accomplish this the following will be implemented with estimated costs.
Additional hours as needed for Office Manager and Custodian - $2,500
Pastor Kevin McDaniel will assume responsibilities for Buildings and Grounds - $6,000 ($500 monthly)
Pastor Melissa will still oversee church financial operations as Church Treasurer, but daily processing and reports will be contracted for with either an individual or an accounting firm - $20,000
This plan saves $37,758 annually.
The Board of Deacons asks that Church membership review this recommendation and come prepared to vote at Church Conference at 6:15 pm on Wednesday, November 17th. You will receive notice of whether this meeting will be an “in-person” meeting or a Zoom meeting the week prior to the meeting date. Your family Deacon may be contacted if you have specific questions about this recommendation or you may contact the Deacon Board Chair Jim Causby at 828-404-5051.
