Season of Baptism 2023
What follows Advent…
in the church year is “the season following Epiphany” or “Ordinary Time” marked by the color green, perhaps not nearly as engaging visually or thematically. Several years ago our Minister of Music and Creative Worship Kristen Dominguez began using the color blue between Christmas and Lent, and we developed Epiphany themes to tie things together. We began to think about what we could do that would help us as a church, particularly a Baptist church, use this time at the beginning of the year to focus our hearts and minds on who we are as followers of Christ. In our tradition that begins with our baptism. So at Hominy we enter into the “Season of Baptism” following Epiphany Sunday January 8 and concluding with Ash Wednesday on February 22. Our worship and learning during this season focus on aspects of what it means to be a follower of Christ, especially a Baptist one.
After the exciting “takeoff” of Advent it is time to adjust our fuel and air for the long term “flight” of following Jesus. This year we will focus on the theme “Jesus Calls Us.” We hope you will join us in worship and Bible study so you will find what you need to answer that call faithfully in 2023.
